Best way I have found to deal with counting carbs and salt if you have hypertension (high blood pressure) is a TOTALLY FREE online tool called Spark People. It will help you determine your goals and let you know how many carbs you can eat and also gives you diet suggestions and you can track your exercise and it lets you know how many calories you have burned. Have been doing it for 1-1/2 weeks and lost 4 pounds! It has lowered my blood sugar already just from losing a few pounds. Carbs and exercise really work-try it!!!!

Carb choices are just a new way of counting carbs! Each carb choice=15 grams of carbs – about 1 slice of bread, 1/2 cup of rice, 1/2 banana, 1 cookie!!!Most diabetics limit themselves to 45-60 grams (3-4 carb choices) per meal, with 3 meals per day!You can have your 60 grams of carbs in ice cream if you want, (not necessarily a wise choice) or in xmas treats! What you shouldnt do is save all your carbs up and eat 240 grams at one meal! The idea is to keep your blood sugar from spiking, and carbs cause the quickest rise for diabetics! So by limiting your total daily carb intake and spreading it out over the day – it helps to your bg to stay within a more normal range! You dont have to cut out sugar completely! It would help if you would substitute sugar-free whenever you can! But 12 ounces of soda is nearly 40 carbs, while a diet soda is 0 carbs! So can you have the regular soda?? sure, just count it as part of your carb alotment Exercise is a great way to keep blood sugar levels down!
