Cold sores are very very contagious, try never to kiss someone who has one when they have a flare up. People with cold sores who don’t have a cold sore present aren’t contagious. Source:http://answers.ask.com/Health/Diseases/when_are_cold_sores_contagious

cold sores are contagious for one week prior to their even showing up and remain contagious for three weeks after they are gone! The virus lives in your nervous system, and when you have an outbreak, its a month long affair! I would suggest that you stay home this time around!
