How long does it take HIV to show up in a blood test?

The HIV antibody test looks for antibodies to the virus in blood! For most, these antibodies take 6 weeks to 3 months to develop! Any Suggestions here?

Your mom is wrong and I think she has some of her facts confused! HIV can be detected in the blood anywhere from 10 days to 6 months after the exposure! It all depends on how fast the body develops antibodies to the virus! So you are absolutely correct, maximum , it can take up to 6 months to test positive for HIV after exposure!Your mom might have been thinking of the fact that it can take up to 5-10 years BEFORE someone with HIV begins to have symptoms of the disease! They could be HIV positive all along, but not develop any physical symptoms for years! You are correct! Mom is wrong!
