What happens if bacterial vaginosis is left untreated?

Although previously considered a mere nuisance, untreated bacterial vaginosis may cause serious complications, such as increased susceptibility to sexually transmitted infections including HIV, and may present other complications for pregnant women! Any Suggestions here?
