I know what you mean! I have 2 autistic kids, so I know about how bloody expensive is! They told me the average cost of a trained autism therapist is $150-200 per HOUR and the recommended number of hours a child should receive is 40 per WEEK! I have 2 kids, so I should be paying $12,000 per WEEK! (Obviously that doesnt happen!)! My husband and I always joke that we are sending both of our kids to Harvard for a 4 year degree 2 times each year! Except they are still both considered to be non-verbal!!!My husband drives a truck across Canada, so he is not home often! Even though were married, most of the time, Im doing this by myself too! My family all lives in Russia, and will only pay for me to visit them, but not therapy! If you live in New York, there must be autism intervention centres! Im in Canada, so it might be different over there, but our centre offers financial assistance for some programs! You might want to move here because we have free healthcare (well okay, maybe thats not practical, but it is true)! Also, we are desperately in need of healthcare providers, so you could probably find a job easily! Maybe try to find a babysitter! At 6 years old, a teenager could still probably handle him! Teenagers are cheaper! I dont know what to say really except that I understand! Autism has got to be the most expensive disorder on the planet! Were tens of thousands of dollars in debt!!! and we both work fulltime, with no cable or alcohol ever, or nights out! Getting help for your son will probably help you though! Its a lot less depressing if you can see your child improving and learning new things!
