Until you pass out from oxygen deprivation, yeah its painful! As your body convusivley sucks in water trying to breath, filling your lungs, yeah its painful! As your limbs pin and needle, starting to ache, its painful! As the panic sets in and you struggle helplessly to escape, its freakin painful! But once you get past that and you go numb from the lack of oxygen, I guess it wouldnt be so bad! ODing on laudanum would be a euphoric death, getting shot in the head would be a painless death! Drowning would be neither!
It is deadly painful to drown conciously, that is why just before drowning people become unconcious and die naturally. Mostly it hurts on the left side of stomach
